When Is the Dubai Fountain Reopening?
If you’ve passed through Downtown Dubai recently and noticed the massive artificial lake dry and the fountain inactive — you’re not imagining things. The Dubai Fountain was officially shut down on Saturday, April 19, to begin a large-scale redevelopment project.
Emaar has now confirmed via Instagram that the world-famous fountain is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Why Is the Fountain Closed?
To prepare for a cutting-edge overhaul, the first phase of redevelopment included draining the massive 30-acre Burj Lake — leaving the entire area looking dramatically different.
One major reason for the revamp is structural. The previous flooring beneath the fountain was prone to cracks, which impacted long-term performance. A brand-new insulated concrete surface is being installed to better retain water and withstand wear over time.
What’s New? Dubai Fountain 2.0
So what’s changing in this new chapter for Dubai Fountain?
- Advanced Performance Tech: Expect a show unlike anything before — with robots coordinating water movement, synced perfectly with lighting and sound for an immersive visual experience.
- Improved Choreography: The new system will deliver even more precise movement of the fountain jets, which can shoot up to 22,000 gallons of water into the air at heights of up to 140 meters.
- Enhanced Sound & Light: The shows will feature state-of-the-art lighting systems and improved acoustic setups, bringing both local and international music to life with dazzling synchronized displays.
What’s Happening Around the Fountain in the Meantime?
With one of the city’s biggest attractions temporarily out of action, Emaar is ensuring visitors still enjoy a lively experience.
- Massive Digital Screens: A 500-metre stretch of high-tech digital screens is being installed across the promenade near Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar. These will display dynamic visual content to keep the area vibrant and engaging.
- Support for Restaurants: To ease the impact on businesses that depend on fountain-facing views, Emaar is waiving rent for over 50 food and beverage outlets located on the promenade. This rent relief will apply from June through September.
Even with the fountain paused, guests can still enjoy the unbeatable views of Burj Khalifa and soak in the buzz of Downtown Dubai.
What Emaar Says

“For years, Dubai Fountain and the surrounding lake have contributed significantly to the popularity of these destinations,” he said.
“As we move into a new chapter, this rent support reflects our commitment to long-term partnerships and to helping tenants navigate this transition with resilience and confidence.”
With October 1 marked on the calendar, Dubai residents and tourists alike can look forward to a reinvented fountain experience that promises to be brighter, smarter, and more breathtaking than ever before.
Until then, grab a bite at a terrace restaurant, catch some stunning digital art on the promenade screens, and stay tuned for the grand relaunch of one of Dubai’s most spectacular shows.
